Face inverted
Purged of warmth
Cold intentions behind the smile
The sharp points of these eyes
Have gathered all the stray debris out of orbit
Into one stern, suspending stare
We’re standing in the garden
With just the wilted grass between us
I point my finger at your visage
Then direct your gaze towards the well
The small pool of water
Spans a galaxy’s length
As your eyes slowly widen
You retreat back into your cobwebbed corner
I remain outdoors conjuring your trance
With your back turned
You’re an object in red shift
Standing frozen, yet drifting
Back into your sunless interior
At light speed
You’re enchanted, under my control
Just as much as I’m under yours
Together we’ll leave
These shadowy, claustrophobic rooms
Soon my misty breath
And your pale gown
Will be shimmering throughout the trees and hills
Under starlight

The terrain curves slightly
The path leads off to the side
Two trees rise above the rest
Having shed their leaves
Moss and dampness cover the fence
Enclosing the lingering black aura
The coldest ice of the universe
Was deposited here
The shallow earthly soil
Conceals rocks from deep space
This ancient force summons the window
That dimly appears out of thin air
And thus we’re imprisoned
In hypnotic paralysis
Step towards the warped fence
See the shallow pools
Rank and brackish in the physical world
Crystal clear in the spiritual beyond
The ripples draw towards them
Light from distant galaxies and moonbeams
Apparitions stir within
Our stillness allows their movement
We stand here
Waiting to be consumed
By the stronger spirits
The sun hides itself
Leaving our decayed nature
Hidden in the dark
And rises again
Only after we’ve removed ourselves
Behold, the solar halo
Its splendor yearned for by the human heart
But we are encased
In this den
Where not a fraction gets through

Dead Horse Mountain
14:37
|

Our ride on the celestial railroad is finished
At the junction
We step out of the thin air window
To a charred abandoned ghost town
A stellar wind sheds frost over the hearthstone
The shadows flicker
Perplexed spirits in vague form
Tease our ruined psyches
We are unwelcome
The pounding hooves of old have been stalled
Amidst this thing they call progress
All boundaries, forms, and pretensions blend together
They are all tied to the spokes of the wheel
On these burial mounds we can still see
Their disembodied remnants
Smoking nostrils, flaming eyes
And riders with iron helmets
We are manifested in this age
But our hearts are long buried
With these ghost riders
On dead horse mountain
Here we are, stirring dying embers
In this familiar ghastly room
But in our minds
We are on the mountain at midnight
Meteors streak across the sky
Across the field, past the graves
Torches slowly move
At the edge of the woods
Let us savor the last of our strength
As perdition’s grip closes in

Dawn comes
We’re still out here
On the mountain
Losing sense of time
Mesmerized by the deep, red glow
Of the sunrise
Basking in our indifference
Blissfully ignorant to any threats
From without or within
The seasons blend together
The snow image just dances on and on…
And again the cycle begins
In the blink of an eye
Spring turns to winter
The deformed wolf
Is standing off to the side
Not completely present
Not of this dimension
Yet it could still put an end to us
And so I ignore it
Turn away from the misshapen face
And hungry fangs
All rationality melts
In the magnetism
Of your oceanic eyes
The icy petals on your garland
Become heated and liquefied
I turn back around
The wolf is now on the trail
Its hot breath fuming
Within a light-second
You’ve grown old
I bury you in the snow
This forest, with its ravines and caves
Is like a nebula
In its expanse
And scope of isolation
Our snow image no longer dances
It has melted
Into the soil of Seven Hollows

Slumbering
On this solitary throne
The clock is ticking on the wall
The bird pops out
The jarring chimes ring their alarm
I awake, bereft of pride and pomp
You’re decomposing
Out there in the snow where I left you
The icy wind howls
The sky turns dark and green
The trees sway in anticipation
Of the wedge tornado crossing I-40
Towering above the clouds
I pluck the tornado off the ground
And split the atom
Push the last two molecules
To the edge of the visible universe
The temperature drops
Colder than the lunar crevices
Gravity ceases to exist
The wolf inside is howling
Tearing the sun apart with its unchained jaws
Eyes blaring
Foaming at the mouth
Snapping through the bars of the cage
At the ignorant laughing faces
Bring forth your domesticated Southland dogs
So I can feel the blood of their necks
Bubbling and warm on my teeth
Dead heaps of flesh all around me
I slay both animal and human
The planets keep hurtling away
At astronomical speeds
As the universe expands
The light of the stars declines
I howl at the moon
During its final orbit
In remembrance of you
Close my eyes and chant
Clinging to the last spark of magnetism
The trance begins
The tornado carries me back home
To our sunless interior
